Background Information – What are SSPs?

  • Dedicated Sector Strengthening Plans (SSP) are key to progressing implementation of Priority Reform Two.
  • Four SSPs have already been developed and are at various stages of implementation. The Domestic, Family, and Sexual Violence (DFSV) SSP is one of three SSPs currently being developed along with the Justice SSP and Languages SSP.
  • FNAAFV has been endorsed by the Coalition of Peaks to lead the development of the DFSV SSP in partnership with the Department of Social Services.

What is the DFSV SSP?

The DFSV SSP will develop priorities to guide national and jurisdictional initiatives in building a strong and sustainable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled DFSV sector.

The DFSV SSP will be a roadmap for all levels of government and the community-controlled sector to address Target 13 of Closing the Gap. See Targets under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap for more information.

While the DFSV SSP aims to develop actions and principles to address Target 13, it is important to note this is grounded in a whole of society approach to addressing violence within First Nations communities. The DFSV SSP will therefore sit within a wider context that requires the broader sector to commit to addressing DFSV.

The journey so far

The preliminary steps were for FNAAFV to complete a Needs and Maturity Assessment with the ACCO DFSV sector.

A Working Group made up of jurisdictional government representatives and ACCO representatives has been established to oversee the development of DFSV SSP.

FNAAFV has put together a report analysing the state of the ACCO DFSV sector based on the Needs Assessment findings, recent consultation processes from related projects, and existing research literature.

FNAAFV are using this report to sense test it with the community/sector rather than asking you to tell us what you have already said in previous consultation processes.

We want to hear from you!

You can engage by submitting your feedback in whatever format works best for you.

Send your submission to info@fnaafv.org.au or get in touch if you would like to attend the yarning sessions.
