FNAAFV
First Nations Advocates Against Family Violence (FNAAFV) was established as a national peak body in 2012, and we work in collaboration with our members from the Family Violence Prevention and Legal Services (FVPLS) sector to increase access to justice for First Nations people and communities affected by domestic, family, and sexual violence — predominantly women and children.
Our name tells our story
First Nations
Community-controlled, self-determined and representative of First Nations women, children and their communities.
Advocates
Amplifying the FVPLS sector, uniquely placed to identify and address policy, legal and funding reforms.
Against Family Violence
A dedicated national peak body funded to address domestic, family and sexual violence in First Nations communities.
Our Vision
A future where all First Nations communities and individuals live free from the devastating impacts of domestic, family, and sexual violence.
Our purpose
To be the leading national voice on family violence affecting First Nations people — advocating for reforms and working collaboratively with our members and partners to deliver culturally sensitive, self-driven, holistic solutions that foster healing, resilience, and safety.
Funding of FNAAFV
The Australian Government provided direct funding to FNAAFV for three years commencing in 2023. This funding is essential to enable our organisation to undertake our national advocacy work in raising awareness and informing policy responses to the issue of family violence affecting First Nations people, and for FNAAFV to support the capacity of the FVPLS sector.
Reducing and eliminating family violence can only be achieved with a commitment by government to a genuine partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and peak body organisations like ours.
FNAAFV looks to the Australian Government to provide long-term and sustainable funding for our crucial work into the future.
Sponsors and Pro Bono Supporters
We extend our sincere thanks to our partners, sponsors, funders, and pro bono supporters for their ongoing commitment to FNAAFV. Your support is critical to our work and enables us to collaborate with members, communities, governments, and sector stakeholders to raise awareness of family violence and advocate for culturally safe, community-led legal and holistic responses.
We deeply value this partnership and acknowledge the important role you play in strengthening our collective impact. We look forward to continuing to work together to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and advance lasting change.
